I live within 20 miles of where this happened. at certain times of the year you can go to the landing near where this happened and you can hear the ship coming down the river. The al of a sudden you can hear people screaming and you can the fire coming down the river. It only lasts a few minutes. If the weather is the same that it was the night o March 1, 1858 foggy and little on the cold side you can really hear it and see it and even hear the people as they are jumping in the river. The reports of this has still been happening just in the last few years. While the landing in no longer in use to the public you can still go down the road and go to the river abnk and walk up the river and wait for it. It is amazing to hear and see

Thank you for the information on naming files. I have just gone through papers and pictures of my and my husbands parents boxes. I wondered how I was going to file all of them. I did not know that I could not leave a space.

I will read the video before I start naming.

Building a great site also needs to include appropriate keyword research. If you are not doing this step, you are wasting time building a site that no one will find. It used to be easy to build a site and get traffic, today it is getting very complex... Great article though!!! Thanks

If the site is password protected, the only folks who have access are the ones YOU give the password too. Make it a strong password though.

My husband and I are trying to design a genealogy website and get it up and running. We have lots of files, 2 different types of design software, and a host server/account, plus we paid for our domain name already. Can the owner of the software gain access to our personal genealogy database? It isn't something we want to share publicly (we would like to create a password-protected area of the website). Thanks.

I use Legacy FamilyTree software. They have a wonderful feature that allows you to create a website. You can get the software here.

[...] Until today my family tree on Rootsweb WorldConnect had been a very plain, black text on a white background. It did not match the color scheme on my genealogy website. That changed when I found Patricia Geary‘s website and ebook Planning a Genealogy Website EBook, 2nd Edition. [...]
